Brief Character History
Although Pamela Capwell Conrad was first mentioned soon after Santa Barbara's debut in 1984, she didn't appear on the show until three years later. Pamela was the ex-wife of wealthy C.C. Capwell and the mother of his oldest son, Mason. She was also the mother of the evil Elena Nikolas, having been secretly pregnant with Elena when C.C. divorced her and having left Elena to be raised by Dr. Alex Nikolas, Pamela's admirer. Pamela's other son was Jeffrey Conrad through her marriage to Michael Conrad in England.

In 1987, Pamela was believed to have died after getting ill and jumping off the 59th Street Bridge into the East River. Her body was never found. Jeffrey blamed Mason for ignoring Pamela's letters while she was ill, but it was soon revealed that C.C. had intercepted them. That same year, C.C.'s scheming ex-wife Gina was the first to discover that Pamela was actually alive and living in Santa Barbara. At the time, Pamela was wearing a veil because she was suffering from a disfiguring disease. Hoping to shake up C.C.'s life, Gina got Pamela the medicine she needed to beat this disease. Pamela then reunited with her two sons, Mason and Jeffrey. She also testified on Cruz Castillo's behalf when he was suspected of killing Elena. Furthermore, she schemed to reclaim C.C.'s love and win him away from Sophia.

In order to keep his mother in Santa Barbara, Mason gave her a large house. Pamela got Jeffrey and Kelly, C.C. and Sophia's daughter, to move in with her after their wedding. After only a few months, however, Pamela's overbearing behavior caused Jeffrey and Kelly to move out. Meanwhile, C.C. was less than pleased about Pamela's return to town, especially when she turned out to be the rightful owner of his oil rig. Wanting to force her rival out of town, Sophia hired a man named Ed Thompson to take care of it. Much to Sophia's horror, Thompson blew up Pamela's oil rig! When Pamela learned of Sophia's actions, she paid Thompson to reveal the truth to C.C. As a result, C.C. and Sophia broke up. Pamela tried to lure C.C. into her bed and succeeded in doing so.

Pamela and C.C. were constantly drawn to each other because of a dark secret from their past. This secret involved C.C. accidentally killing Pamela's lover Hal Clark during a fight at the Capwell boathouse in 1958. When C.C. dumped Pamela once again, she was outraged and told all about Hal's death to slimy D.A. Keith Timmons. She even had proof to nail C.C. for murder in cold blood: Hal's skull with a bullet in it! Pamela's plan backfired when Hal's nephew, Dr. Scott Clark, revealed under hypnosis that Pamela, not C.C., was responsible for Hal's death. She had come back that night and shot Hal. Due to lack of evidence, the matter was put to rest.

Pamela attempted suicide after the truth about Hal Clark was revealed. She was saved by Jeffrey. Later, Pamela and C.C. were rescued when Hal's vengeful brother, Ben Clark, held them hostage at the Capwell house. Pamela decided to return to England, but only if Jeffrey and Kelly would go with her. When Kelly refused, a desperate Pamela decided to break up Jeffrey and Kelly's marriage. She hired ex-gigolo T.J. Daniels to seduce Kelly, but was unable to count on him.

Going off the deep end, Pamela decided to kill Kelly by poisoning her margarita at a party. Kelly ended up in a coma. When Kelly recovered, Pamela tried to kill her and T.J. on the hospital roof. Fortunately, Pamela was captured. After confessing to her actions, she was put in jail and bitterly denounced by Jeffrey.

In 1991, Pamela returned to town and made amends with Mason. Together, they crashed a family dinner party at the Capwell mansion. During the course of the evening, Pamela dropped the bombshell that Cassandra Benedict, the Capwell foster daughter, was actually the daughter of Minx Lockridge. Eventually, Pamela snapped. She was once again institutionalized, leaving Mason heartbroken.
