Cruz Castillo,
1984-92 A Martinez was born on September 27, 1948 in Glendale, California, as the third generation Adolph Martinez. As a child, the family referred to him as "Little A" in order to distinguish him from his father and grandfather. The name was later shortened to A. His heritage is Native American, Spanish and Mexican. A was discovered in a drama class at U.C.L.A., and made his movie debut in Born Wild, then he won a part in The Cowboys, which starred John Wayne. In 1989 he played a sexy/sleazy butler in the movie She Devil. His other feature film credits include Powwow Highway and What's Cooking? A began his daytime career on Santa Barbara in the iconic role of heartthrob Cruz Castillo. He spent eight years on the show. In 1990, his portrayal of Cruz earned him an Emmy. His soap resumé also includes General Hospital, One Life to Live and The Bold and the Beautiful. After leaving SB, A joined the cast of the primetime drama L.A. Law as Daniel Morales and later appeared as Nick Cooper on Profiler. His other television credits include Cassie & Co. and Whiz Kids. He was also seen in the telefilms Manhunt: Search for the Night Stalker, Criminal Behavior, Deconstructing Sarah and She Led Two Lives. A made his professional singing debut at age 12 at the Hollywood Bowl where he won a talent competition. In 2003, he put out his first CD entitled Fragrance & Thorn. He has been married to Leslie Bryans since 1982. They have one son, Dakota Lee, and two daughters, Devon Makena and Ren Farren. He was briefly married in 1981 to actress Mare Winningham. |
