The Lockridge/Capwell Feud
|
| The feud between the Capwell and Lockridge families
started in 1884. According to the Lockridges, Nathaniel Capwell
(C.C.'s grandfather) was responsible for the sinking of their ship,
the Amanda Lockridge. Supposedly, the ship contained several famous
art works and with the arrival of the Amanda, the Lockridges were
supposed to assume their place as one of the most influential and
wealthy art collectors in the United States. Alas, the Amanda sank
mysteriously one night just off the coast.
Amanda Lockridge was the sole survivor when the ship went down.
The Lockridges claimed that Nathaniel Capwell had been in love with
Amanda, his best friend's wife, and that he had sunk the ship
because she didn't want him. The Capwells in turn claimed that
Amanda was insane. In 1984, Lionel set out to prove his late
grandmother right and dived for the ship. He found several treasures
and the captain's log book. In the end, however, nothing was
resolved and the feud between the two families continued. |

Minx's Long Lost Daughter
|
| Minx had a happy marriage with T. MacDonald, though
apparently he wasn't known for his fidelity. Following his death,
Minx felt so lost that she got involved in an affair. Just as she
was supposed to be settling down and being a grandmother, she
found herself pregnant and very ashamed. She had a partings of
ways with the father, who never knew she was pregnant. She then
told her friends that she was on safari, but instead went to a
convent and gave birth to a baby girl, whom she gave up for
adoption. That baby was Cassandra Benedict. She was raised briefly
by the Capwells.
Minx's secret didn't come out until 1990 when she set out to
find her daughter with the help of Michael Donnelly. They
discovered that Cassie was Minx's daughter. At first Cassie
remained loyal to the Capwells, but eventually she came to accept
the Lockridges as her family. The identity of Cassie's father was
never revealed, though Pamela Conrad apparently knew who he was. |
| Lionel Lockridge and Augusta Wainwright were
married for many years until they divorced in 1986. They had two
children together, Warren and Laken. In 1991, it was revealed that
Warren wasn't Lionel's son.
Lionel was devastated when Augusta divorced him, but soon found
happiness with Caroline Wilson and married her. Sadly, Caroline
passed away soon after. In 1992, Lionel married Gina Timmons and
adopted her son, Channing Creighton Capwell III.
Augusta was briefly married (offscreen) to mobster Anthony
Tonell in 1989. It was strongly implied that Augusta had him
killed, hoping to inherit his estate. |
| During his marriage to Augusta, Lionel had an
affair with actress Sophia Wayne. Sophia didn't know Lionel was
married and when she found out, she got even with him in the worst
possible way. She seduced C.C. Capwell, Lionel's archenemy, and
married him. The product of Lionel and Sophia's affair was a baby
that she and C.C. named Channing Capwell, Jr. Sophia allowed her
husband and everyone else to think that the boy was his.
Lionel's mother, Minx, couldn't stand the thought of a
Lockridge being raised by a Capwell, so, while the baby was still
in the hospital after its birth, she switched him with a baby born
to the Wallace family. So, the young man who was raised as
Channing was by birth a Wallace; and Brick Wallace (who was raised
by Glenn and Katie Wallace, carnival performers) was by birth a
Capwell/Lockridge. |
| When Augusta originally learned about Lionel's
affair with Sophia, she had an affair of her own and got pregnant
with another man's baby. That child was Warren. The truth didn't
come out until 1991.
Warren and Cassandra were lovers offscreen before she
discovered that his grandmother, Minx, was her biological mother.
Naturally, Warren and Cassie believed they couldn't be together
anymore since they were now aunt and nephew. But Augusta revealed
to Mason that Lionel wasn't really Warren's father, so Warren and
Cassie weren't related after all. Mason kept this secret for
months.
It was never revealed who Warren's real father was, but he once
had a dream that it was C.C. Capwell. Nevertheless, Minx denied to
Warren that it was C.C. |
| Julia and Augusta's parents lived in Phoenix. Their
father, Roger Wainwright, was an alcoholic and died of cirrhosis
in 1989. The spirit of her late father appeared to Julia several
times in 1990.
Augusta and Julia were very close despite the age difference
between them. They lived together several times over the years. In
1991, the sisters briefly grew estranged when Augusta started
lusting after Dash Nichols, Julia's rapist.
Augusta's excuse for missing Mason and Julia's 1989 wedding was
that her daughter, Laken, was having a baby. The jig was up a year
later when Laken returned to town without a baby and Augusta
admitted she had lied. |
