Brief Character History

Abandoned at a young age, Cassandra Benedict (nicknamed Cassie) was raised in the Santa Barbara orphanage along with Stephen Slade, Craig Hunt, Derek Griffin and Ethan Asher. Shortly after being adopted by the wealthy Capwells as a youngster, Cassandra was involved in a cave-in underneath the orphanage and presumed dead for twenty years. Believing that the girl had been murdered, Stephen, Craig, Derek and Ethan wrongly fingered Frank Pressman as the killer. In time, the now-grown orphans returned to Santa Barbara and reinvestigated Cassie's death, while Frank Pressman waited on death row. Stephen even made a movie about Cassie's story.

Through their own investigation, the boys concluded that Mason Capwell was Cassie's true killer. Taking matters into his own hands, Derek kidnapped Mason and brought him to a secluded cabin for execution. Just as Derek was about to kill Mason, Cassie turned out to be alive and stopped him! She'd been in hiding and the news about Frank Pressman had brought her back.

Cassie tried to re-adjust to life in Santa Barbara and lived with the Capwells again. It soon became clear that she possessed an uncanny ability to lie and deceive without ever letting on that she had a secret agenda. She forged a business relationship with Mason and conspired to win him away from his wife, Julia. Cassie's manipulations included planting lipstick on Mason's collar to create distrust in his marriage. Ultimately, however, it was Mason's alcoholism that destroyed the marriage. Cassie moved in on a vulnerable Mason, but he still wanted Julia.

Meanwhile, the years since Cassie's disappearance remained a field of mystery. Stephen fell in love with Cassie despite of it, but she didn't reciprocate his feelings. Her fingerprints were later found at the scene of the fire that had destroyed Stephen's movie, but she was never punished. Furthermore, Stephen mysteriously disappeared.

It turned out that Cassie was connected to the Lockridges, another wealthy family in town. It seemed that she'd been given up at birth by matriarch Minx Lockridge herself! Cassie had no intention of welcoming Minx with opens arms, but they eventually grew closer. When Cassie started receiving gifts, she assumed her secret admirer was Mason and agreed to meet him in Singapore. Once there, she was shocked to find that the gift-giver was none other than Warren Lockridge. It was revealed that Cassie and Warren had been lovers in the Far East before she knew they were both Lockridges. Believing that they were related, Cassie was forced to break it off with her "nephew".

Despite loving Warren, Cassie became engaged to Mason. At their engagement party, a bullet traveled through Mason and killed Amado Gonzalez. Warren was suspected of the crime and even Cassie had doubts about his innocence. Later on, she and Mason went to San Francisco to get married. Warren kidnapped Cassie as she was preparing to walk down the aisle. Shortly thereafter, Mason and Cassie officially broke it off.

Later, Mason told Cassie that Warren wasn't Lionel Lockridge's son and hence not related to her. Mason had kept this secret for months, and Cassie was furious. By then, Warren had become involved with Angela Raymond. When Warren chose Angela over her, Cassie descended into madness. She tried to poison Angela and eventually disappeared from the canvas without explanation.
