After wearing a back brace for three years and having an operation, Julia was told she would never be able to dance and went into acting. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama from Webster University in St. Louis, MO.

Julia's first big break came when ABC TV paid her way to New York and put her in the soap Ryan's Hope. She then moved to California for the role of Courtney Capwell on Santa Barbara.

Her other television credits include Women in Prison, Herman's Head, Cutters, Blue Skies, A Whole New Ballgame, Champs, Martial Law, Still Standing and Dexter. She's well known for her role in the feature film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. She also appeared in the films Opportunity Knocks, Livin' Large and Tillamook Treasure.
