Kelly and Robert become lovers.

JANUARY 22, 1990 (Ep. #1380)
Robert pushes thoughts of Eden from his mind and gives Kelly permission to change him. Robert hires Ric, for a thousand dollars a day, to gather information on Hunt's gambling operation. Ric stashes one of Hunt's crates, but Hunt demands that he return it. Later, Robert kisses Kelly and the sexual tension is thick. Gina confesses to Ethan that she's unable to have children. Ethan secretly orders a pregnancy test on Laura. As a way of getting closer to Julia, Mason helps her and Eden with Derek Griffin's immigration problem. Julia doesn't want Mason's attention anymore, however. C.C. tries to discourage Sophia from taking the film role, but she's determined to restore her status as a legitimate actress.

JANUARY 23, 1990 (Ep. #1381)
When Laura learns that Ethan ordered a pregnancy test, she changes the results to read positive. Gina tells Phyllis she can't have children. Convinced that Laura is pregnant, Ethan tells Gina he doesn't want to stop seeing her just because he's committed to his baby. But Gina refuses to be Ethan's mistress and realizes they don't have a future together. To help Eden, Julia goes to Canada to come to Derek Griffin's aid. She discovers he has two orphans in his care and offers to get the four of them into the States. Unfortunately, they're stopped at the border. Augusta arranges to have a party to celebrate her return to Santa Barbara, but an interview with Anita O'Shea makes it appear like she's a mafia princess. Robert and Kelly make love.

JANUARY 24, 1990 (Ep. #1382)
Julia's quick thinking gets her, Derek and the children passed the border. Julia finds Derek a passionately committed man and vows to help him in any way she can. Cruz has followed Nikki to Mexico, where she shows him the graves of her parents and the place she grew up. Cruz demands to know the truth about Nikki's relationship with Travis, but she escapes. Soon after, Cruz learns of Nikki's involvement in the buying and selling of horses. He catches her talking to Travis and places her under arrest. When Stephen tells Sophia that he wrote the film role with her in mind, she decides to accept. As a way of beating Robert, C.C. makes Augusta an offer for Dark Victor. But she refuses to sell the horse.

JANUARY 25, 1990 (Ep. #1383)
Augusta arranges to have a benefit auction for Derek's children's home and tells C.C. the news, so he will have to bid against Robert for Dark Victor. Derek meets with his old jailmate, Robert, who doesn't recall Derek having been so charitable and selfless. Mason pulls a stunt to impress Julia, but later he's jealous to see her with Derek. Nikki confesses to Cruz that she's an undercover cop and has been tailing Travis, who's involved in smuggling stolen horses. Cruz is skeptical at first, but her story checks out. After returning to Santa Barbara, Nikki and Cruz agree to pretend they're still adversaries. When Mason tells Eden he may have hurt Julia too much for her to ever forgive him, she thinks of Cruz. She's hurt when she sees Cruz with Nikki.

JANUARY 26, 1990 (Ep. #1384)
Sophia scolds Eden and Cruz, warning them that unless they enjoy being single, they should stop complaining that they're waiting for a sign from the other and take the initiative. As Eden is about to tell Cruz she wants him back, Nikki storms in, telling Cruz she needs his help with Travis right away. Kelly wants everyone to know about her affair with Robert, but he forbids it. However, during a fight with C.C., Kelly blurts out the truth. She decides to move out of the mansion, but is disappointed Robert will only let her stay a few days. Ric fills Kelly in and tells her that Hunt has arranged for two dupes to legally own the charter board housing the casino, while he reaps a tremendous profit. Robert discovers one of the pigeons in Hunt's operation is Sasha. Augusta sets her sights on C.C.
